Vacation Leave

Full-time benefits eligible employees are eligible for paid vacation leave, with accrual rates increasing based on years of continuous service:

Less than 5 years: 3.7 hours per pay period (max 144 hours)

5–9 years: 4.7 hours per pay period (max 176 hours)

10–14 years: 5.6 hours per pay period (max 208 hours)

15+ years: 6.5 hours per pay period (max 240 hours)

Vacation leave cannot be used during the first three (3) months of employment.
Personal Leave (Part-Time Benefits Eligible Employees)

Five (5) days per calendar year, prorated for mid-year hires.
Sick Leave

Full-time and part-time benefits-eligible employees earn five (5) days (40 hours) of sick leave per year at the start of employment.

Additional sick leave accrues based on hours worked per month (prorated for part-time employees).
Holiday Pay
- The following days shall be paid holidays for city employees. Seasonal and temporary employees shall not receive paid holidays.

- Thanksgiving Day and the Friday after
- Christmas Day
Discretionary Day
- 1 (one) discretionary day per year. After 3 years of continuous employment, the employee shall receive 2 (two) discretionary days per year.
Retirement – KPERS Benefits

Kansas Public Employees Retirement System (KPERS) is a retirement package developed and administered by the State. This program is mandatory for all full-time employees, as well as part-time employees who work over 1,000 hours per year.

Under current law, KPERS members contribute 6 (six) percent of their salary via payroll deduction. The employer’s share is determined by KPERS, and varies annually.
KPERS Death and Disability Benefits

All employees who are contributing members of KPERS are eligible for the insured death and disability benefits provided by KPERS, which is supplemental to the regular KPERS benefits.
KPERS 457 Deferred Compensation Plan

Employees may voluntarily participate in the KPERS 457 Retirement Plan, a deferred compensation plan administered by KPERS. Participation is available upon hire and employees may adjust contributions at any time. Enrollment in KPERS is not required.
Workers’ Compensation

All employees are covered under the Kansas Workers’ Compensation Act. Costs of this benefit are paid by the City.
Healthcare Program

Full-time employees are eligible for the City’s group health insurance starting the first billing cycle of the month following eligibility.

The City contributes up to $700 per month toward the employee’s chosen health plan and pays 100% of dental premiums. Employees are responsible for additional costs to cover dependents or family members.
